This chapter introduces my design philosophy, my design style, and the influences behind it.
Resonance
Resonance is a subjective phenomenon in which individuals generate similar thoughts and emotions as a result of other people or things. A person's experiences from birth shape the potential for resonance they may encounter. Factors such as age, ethnicity, culture, politics, ideology, and more, all play different roles in shaping an individual, and these influences also mold a person's characteristics. Simultaneously, when facing others or objects, individuals will experience varying degrees of resonance due to their unique influencing factors. For instance, people of the same ethnicity may resonate with each other due to their specific cultural background, or individuals of the same gender may experience similar resonance. Even people of similar ages can experience resonance towards events or situations specific to that particular age group.
“Resonance, Creativity, Volatility”
Design is a product of human creation, and thus, resonance can be said to be ubiquitous because design is a creation born from people’s understanding of the world they inhabit. This diverse understanding gives rise to various forms of resonance, which partly explains why some designs are more widely appreciated: they resonate with a larger number of people. Furthermore, although resonance has a broad commonality, as it involves the interconnectedness between individuals, it also possesses uniqueness. Each person’s perception of information, even if similar in the broader sense, is different on an individual level, depending on their own experiences.
In terms of design, what I value the most is the unique similarity yet distinctiveness of resonance. This way of existence contributes to the diversity of human emotions, such as aesthetics, culture, ideology, and more. For instance, in Japanese design, the common sense of nature represents a resonance with the Japanese people's relationship with nature and their way of life. However, this sensory experience may elicit similar yet different resonances in other ethnicities, giving birth to new forms of resonance.Such resonance is vast and not specifically defined within certain categories; it encompasses everything from a resonance with beauty on a broad scale to a resonance with specific forms on a smaller scale – all of it is considered resonance. Therefore, my designs tend to focus on forms of liberating resonance; I hope my designs can create a "sense of beauty" that resonates with others on a conscious level while simultaneously providing each individual with a sense of freedom, freedom that allows them to connect with the design in their own unique way, based on their individual experiences.
