Ensemble is a furniture system designed to enhance public spaces within educational institutions. Originating from site-specific research, it allows users to adapt their environment for diverse activities, fostering conversations and promoting a sense of community. The design addresses the shortcomings of traditional university furniture, such as discomfort, lack of spatial efficiency, and uninspiring atmospheres, as seen at The New School in New York City. Through in-site interviews, observations, and sustainability considerations, Ensemble seeks to create inviting, multifunctional, and socially conducive spaces.
The system features a triangular design language with four furniture types: a tall table, a standard table, a stool, and an upholstered seat. Each piece is crafted from Baltic birch plywood with painted blue edges and red-upholstered cushions, balancing tactile and visual appeal. Designed for mobility and flexibility, the furniture is stackable, fits through standard university doors, and accommodates various configurations for formal, informal, or experimental uses. Users are empowered to shape the space to meet their needs, whether for casual gatherings, collaborative tasks, or creative events like speeches and exhibitions.

Ensemble fosters dynamism and community, reflecting the spirit of its environment. The system is not just a functional solution but a medium for interaction and creativity, enabling users to redefine the space around them. Its true value lies in the connections and activities it facilitates, embodying its name as a collective experience.
